Insomnia and Sleeping disorders
Insomnia is a very common problem. It is a medical condition in which the sufferer feels he/she has not slept for quite a long period of time. Persons suffering from insomnia usually show symptoms like frequent awakening during the night, sleeping too less and getting up early. They usually face difficulty in falling asleep. In comparison to other persons, they take much more time to fall asleep. This problem has most often been found in people suffering from depression. Depressed people have a feeling of misery and grief. They feel isolated from the world and at times guilty. They don’t feel needed by the world and this problem paves way for anomalous sleep patterns. Depression has a major connection with sleeplessness or lack of sleep. When a person keeps thinking about something over and over again, his/her mind is always preoccupied and thus he/she is unable to sleep properly even during nights. It has been seen that a depressed person wakes up early and has difficulty in sleeping. Most of the people complain of lack of sleep without being aware of the fact that they are depressed. If you are suffering from hopelessness & also lacking interest in the activities that you used to enjoy, then you are in the state of depression which is usually found to be the root cause of insomnia. To avoid insomnia, you should consult your physician. Depression patients are often advised to go for counseling. There are many sleep aids that are coming up in the market to get quick relief from sleeping problem such as sleep aid pills. Insomnia is a generalized term used in the context of sleeping disorder but it is of different types. Different types of insomnia There are basically three different kinds of insomnia namely: • Transient insomnia • Short term insomnia • Chronic insomnia a) First one lasts for few nights b) Second one lasts for maximum three weeks and results in nervousness and anxiety. It is more often caused due to marital problems, money matters and other family or social problems. c) Third and the final one lasts for longer period of time .It often results from health conditions such as arthritis, cardiac disease, asthma, diabetes, ulcer and depression. Excessive intake of drugs and alcohol also result in sleeplessness. Common causes of Insomnia There are a number of factors which cause insomnia; but the common reasons are: • Stress • Anxiety • Arthritis Popular Sleep Aids Though, there are a number of remedial measures; some are natural while others are artificial. Relaxation is the best treatment recommended to people suffering from anxiety and stress. Meditation accompanied with deep breathing is a great option to combat insomnia. If you are having lack of sleep due to prescribed medications, you should consult your doctor to change your dosage so as to improve your sleep. Creating a comfy sleep atmosphere can do wonders in improving your sleep. Excessive intake of caffeine results in dehydration because it leads to the development of stimulants in the blood stream which result in lack of sleep. In such a situation, it is advisable to drink loads of water. This will in turn flush out the caffeine content, thereby enabling you to get rid of the problem of insomnia. Exercise is one of the best remedies to get rid of sleeplessness especially if you are suffering from anxiety. Exercise increases the flow of blood and releases endorphins which help to reduce the level of stress, thereby resulting in sound sleep. You should take sleep aid pills only if prescribed by your physician to overcome insomnia. |
