Himalayan Cat Grooming Tips
If you have ever owned a Himalayan cat you know how difficult they are to groom and maintain. They suffer problems such as clumping or knotting of their fur, drippy eyes and sinus infections. To help combat against the clumping fur I would recommend brushing your cat at least 2-3 times a day with a wire brush. This usually will help with the problem but if all else fails you can give your cat a lions cut twice a year when you can't keep up with the brushing needs. For the cats eyes I would recommend using Q-tips dipped in a saline solution and carefully wiping the eyes at least three times per day. This not only helps to keep a clean appearance but also fights off infections associated with the eyes. Lastly, and this is the most important tip, try to clear all snot and other material away from your Himalayan cat's nose at least twice a day. Because these cats have severely pushed in noses they often times will have a crusty layer around their nostrils that can lead to sinus infection which will cost you a lot of money and time at the vet. Finally, although these cats a very beautiful they are extremely labor intensive and I wouldn't recommend getting one unless you have the time, love and passion for such a wonderful breed. |
